Everyone is entitled to the same quality of life — from food and clothing to medical and dental care to immigrant services and legal aid.
However, not everyone has equitable access to these resources. That’s why we work alongside community leaders, donors and organizations in our state to ensure Minnesotans have the basic health and human services they need to not only survive but thrive.

How We Invest
Grantmaking
Grantmaking is one of the primary ways we support positive change on topics related to health and human services.
Through our application-based grant program, we have made 604 grants totaling $24.31 million to 274 organizations in the Health and Human Services categories over the past five years.

Emergency Grant Program
In addition to grantmaking, we also provide emergency relief funds to individuals and families in the East Metro facing short-term financial setbacks. The Community Sharing Fund provides grants to support issues such as rent and mortgage payments, car payments, storage, moving or household goods and appliances. In 2025, the Fund granted $1.6 million into the community. This type of support comes in handy during hard times.
Donor-led Grants
Our fundholders care deeply about many issues, including the health and well-being of the neighbors. Over the last five years, our donor advised fundholders have recommended hundreds of grants to health and human services initiatives and nonprofits:

Additionally, we partner with philanthropic, nonprofit and government organizations on key community initiatives like:
Taylor Family Farms Foundation
In 2023, the Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation was named one of three community foundations responsible for the distribution of revenue produced from $172 million worth of farmland donated by the owner of the Minnesota Timberwolves and chairperson of the Taylor Corporation Glen Taylor, to support organizations in southern Minnesota.
One of the several issues our partnership with Taylor Family Farms Foundation supports is health and human services across 29 counties in southern Minnesota and 11 counties in northwest Iowa. Each year the Foundation holds two grant rounds with a different area of focus.
In 2025, we were able to make a direct grant to Winona Health in support of the Winona Community HUB. This year, we plan to direct a health and human service grant specifically focused on emergency services.
